Following are some suggested ideas to incorporate into your next program. They are certain to make any journey with us a memorable occasion:

NATIONAL CATHEDRAL and GEORGETOWN:

The Washington National Cathedral is an exceptional 14th Century Gothic-style Cathedral. Built the way churches used to be, it uses no structural steel and employs workmanship of high quality. Exquisite stained glass windows and rare tapestries grace this magnificent cathedral, which is one of the largest churches in the world. Georgetown, which flourished in the late 1700s as a great tobacco port, today retains a distinctive charm and air of individuality setting it apart from other residential sections of the city. It is home to Supreme Court Justices, Cabinet Members, Congressional Delegates, Diplomats, and ordinary citizens. We are able to arrange a visit to some of the private homes of great charm and distinction. Refreshments will be served in one of the homes that are not normally open to the public. Time may be made available for browsing in the various boutiques, or dining in some of the world’s finest restaurants. On a nice sunny Washington day, we may also have the opportunity to stroll along the scenic C & O Canal.

Any 4 Hours

MUSEUM TREASURES The National Museum of Women in the Arts, an imposing building in the popular Beaux Arts style prominent in the early 1900’s, is the first and only major museum in the world exclusively dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women arts, past, present and future. The great hall of 1907 building has been redone in tri-colored marble walls and has imposing sweeping double staircases. Sixteen feet high ceilings add grandeur to the elegance and the two floors of galleries are intimate showcases. The newest Smithsonian to open is the National Museum of the American Indian, a living tribute to Native cultures. The creators of this museum have established exhibits, which strive to have the guests share and understand Native values and beliefs. A highlights tour of both of the museums can be provided. Luncheons can be arranged in a nearby restaurant or in one of the museums cafeterias.

HILLWOOD

Hillwood is the fabulous estate of cereal heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post. It was her residence from 1955 until her death in 1973. We will have an opportunity to tour the dacha, elaborately landscaped gardens, weather permitting, and home with its varied works of 18th and 19th Century Russian and French decorative art. Among the impressive items on display is porcelain used by Catherine the Great, gold and silver chalices; icons, jeweled Easter Eggs by Carl Faberge, and an exceptional collection of 18th Century French furniture. A lovely light tea, luncheon or breakfast can be served at Hillwood.

First tour is 9:00AM

SMALLER MUSEUM GEMS

The lovely Phillips Collection, a superb art collection displayed in an elegant 19th Century townhouse will be our first stop. Incorporated in 1920, the museum was the first in the United States to emphasize the work of living artists. A few great masters, such as Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party, and selections from Matisse, Degas, Daumier and Cézanne are among its treasures. From there we will proceed to the fabulous formerly private art collection, the Kreeger Museum. The collection is filled with such notables as Monet, Picasso, Braque, Miro, Kandinsky, David Smith and much more. After our tour we will visit another formerly private collection, the exquisite Salon Dore in the Corcaron Gallery of Art. Originally this Salon was part of the hotel de Clermont, an important 18th-Century private residence in Paris. It has been meticulously restored. We will also visit other representative American and European works of art in this splendid gallery.

LOCAL ARTIST STUDIOS

An unusual opportunity presents itself to view the private studios and enjoy a presentation by extremely talented local artists, some of national renown. This tour can be combined with other museums, historic homes and/or a meal.

LUNCHEON OR DINNER CRUISE

We can enjoy a delicious buffet luncheon along with live entertainment and narration while cruising the historic Potomac River in a climate controlled boat. Choices of several boat companies are available and various options for dinner are available as well.

MILLIONAIRES ROW and TEXTILE MUSEUM

Anderson House is a palatial residence built between 1902 and 1905 by former United States Ambassador to Japan, Lars Anderson. The society of the Cincinnati founded in 1763 to perpetuate the ideals of the Revolution, is housed here. The house contains many priceless relics of the American Revolutionary War as well as fine Far Eastern works of art, jade and porcelain. Near by is the beautiful Home of President Wilson. The house is a lovely Georgian Revival Style home that President Wilson retired to in 1921 after his two terms in office. His widow carefully conserved the home and furnishing exactly as he left them to order to preserve her husband’s legacy as the 28th President of the United States. The house captures the life and times of the only former president to make his home in the nation’s capital. Few figures in American History are survived by such a wealth of material evidence of their lives. Woodrow Wilson House is the lone presidential museum of Washington, DC.

The Textile Museum provides a most unusual experience for the individual interested in ancient fabrics and Oriental carpets. The museum preserves the fine craftsmanship and art traditions of the past in textiles.

(Tea can be served in the Woodrow Wilson House)

Any four hours
